Stokey Rocks Volume 3

MORNING BRIDE
N16's very own darlings of the national music press, Morning Bride are the torch bearers of dynamic, darkly glamorous anglo-americana.... no wonder that THE WORD MAGAZINE recently called them "The best thing to come out of Hackney since the White Stripes recorded 'Elephant' there"

MIKE GIBSON AND THE CITY FARMERS
They've been around. They've been in bands before. They've played The Ritz in New York and the pub on the corner. They've hung out with hookers and hustlers, and with David Bowie, Jarvis Cocker and the Pixies. Theyve had teams of roadies to coil their leads, and theyve stood in the snow at 2am trying to start the van.
They dont play music to meet girls, make money or annoy their parents. They play music because they love it, because when the bass and the drums are just there, when the guitars are riding the groove, when the slides talking to the singer, and when the crowds drinking and dancing and whooping, its the best feeling there is.
And the music they play is the music they love, the music that meant something to them when they started, and still does. Theres a whole lot of rock nroll in there, some country, some folk and some blues. Theres punk attitude, rockabilly fervour and pop suss. Theres Vince Taylor and Joe Strummer; Nick Drake and Johnny Cash.
But all of this would amount to little more than a superior bar band if it wasnt for the songs. Former Godfathers guitarist Mike Gibson put the City Farmers together in 2004 because he needed a band to promote his first solo album, City Farm. The album pulled together a collection of Mikes material from the past few years, mature meditations on the shapes modern life forces people into, the need to resist those pressures, and the possibilities for escape. Everyone who heard those early City Farmers gigs knew there was something special going on, a chemistry that took Mikes songs to unexpected places. And the band knew it too. Theyve carried on working together, gigging, growing into their sound

Ligers n Dreams

In the heat of the city, under the cover of dark; an underground collective of glammed-up, hair-metal freaks come together in a sweaty Dalston basement of sordid rock n' roll dreams.

Welcome to the jungle bitch? This aint no tea dance. This is Ligers N Fuckin' Dreams! An unashamed night of blood, sweat and tears. Skin tight leather debauchery, bleached-toxic hair spray fumes and sex, drugs and rock 'n roll glitter under electric light.

Ligers N' Dreams takes it back to the late seventies, eighties and early nineties when rock was rock, jeans were truly tight and hair was truly big. Think early Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Motley Crue, Bowie, Aerosmith, Patti Smith, The Rolling Stones?

This is hard, glam rock at its dirty best. This is Studio 54 in leopard skin and mascara. This is Axl Rose's wedding. This is Debby Harry taking her knickers off back stage at CBs. This is Ligers N' Dreams.

Ligers N' Dreams... For those about to rock we salute you!

This month Ligers N' Dreams brings you...

Rollin Thunder LIVE

Following in the footsteps of rock legends like Aerosmith, Guns n Roses and Whitesnake, you can pretty much smell the sweat seeping out of these guys myspace page. In their own words they're here 'to bring back REAL ROCK music and Fuck are we gonna do it!!!'

Ligers N' Dreams resident D.J's
Come rock out with the ligers locals, who'll be spinning a heady mix of 70's 80's and 90's classic rock beauties like ACDC, Guns N Roses, Poison, Motley Crue, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Skid Row, LA Guns.

Rock N' Roll Bingo
And for the first hundred people to arrive, a swift round of Rock N' Roll Bingo. If you hear your tunes first, win some fags n' booze.

Until then our lipstick loving liger dreaming friends.... xx

Dananananaykroyd

Thursday 12th June
Upset The Rhythm presents

White Williams
Nurtured in the arson-prone fatalism of Cleveland's DIY scene, 23-year-old Joe Williams, noise-rock dilettante and White Williams' mastermind, made a name for himself twice touring with Gregg Gillis (Girl Talk), Andrew Strasser, Frank Musarra (Hearts of Darknesses) and Luke Venezia (Drop the Lime). Together, through countless venues of ill-repute, they forced their cartooned audio effluvia in the ears of hapless art-students, transients and skin-heads. Inevitably, Joe was saved by pop music. - Last FM.

Doors: 8pm. Admission: £6; tickets available in advance from We Got Tickets.
