The Epiphone SG is a cheaper version of the original Gibson SG. Epiphone came about as a company in 1873 but were later acquired by Gibson in 1957. The SG is used by several famous musicians, probably most notably Angus Young from ACDC. It is one of the most iconic guitar shapes in existence and incredibly well known along with shapes like the Stratocaster and Les Paul.
There are several different variants of the Epiphone SG and different guitars all together such as the Epiphone Les Paul Standard although normally the models feature a pair of double humbucker pickups and a mahogany neck and body. Probably the most classic colour for the guitar is the dark cherry red or jet black.
The Epiphone SG is a classic rock guitar and would make a great present for anyone looking to learn to play the guitar as it is cheaper than its Gibson counterpart. For more serious musicians, the Gibson SG is probably the better choice.
